Mary Ann was a wonderful friend and colleague. Even though we only saw her about once a year, we could always pick up right where we left off with her. So sorry, Patrick. She was a tremendous friend and fellow geographer.

GeoGirl Mary Ann, you leave a hole as deep as the Grand Canyon in our hearts. I loved working with you for years with the Illinois Geographic Alliance and Illinois Geographical Society. But most of all, you were always there to volunteer for National Geographic's Illinois State Geography Bee. You will be missed by so many who love you from all corners of the world. I know you will enjoy exploring all the wonders of your new home in heaven!

What a shock! Mary Ann has contributed so much to the geography mission to bring the world to students of all ages. I, too, worked with Mary Ann for many years with the Illinois Geographic Alliance, Illinois Geographical Society, and the Geographic Society of Chicago. She will be missed by all of her geo-colleagues. Great picture of Mary Ann - always a smile on her face and a kind word. I agree with Ani - Mary Ann will be exploring new places now. And she will remain in the hearts and memories of the people she touched. My heartfelt sympathies to all of her family and friends - especially Patrick, her mother, and siblings.

To the family of Mary Ann Kurke, I want to express my deepest sympathy to you. I am very sorry for your loss. Whenever we lose a loved one, it leaves a deep pain in our hearts that will never be forgotten. However, you can have comfort in knowing that God will strengthen you through this difficult time. Psalms 147:3 says, "He is healing the brokenhearted ones, and is binding up their painful spots." May this scripture soothe your hearts and help you endure. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mary Ann, You and Pat were such a couple for more years than I am married. I will always cherish the time we cooked together, enjoyed fireworks with our kids and your garden and parties and swimming with you and Pat. The Daly Clan will miss you very much, you have been a part of our family for over a quarter of a century. I like many others will love to see you in Heaven and hear of your adventures. Please watch over us and pray for us that we arrive there safely one day to hug you again. Love Ya Sista
