Donna M. Vallone nee Verkler, age 90. Lansing resident formerly of Sauk Village and Chicago’s West Pullman neighborhood/Seven Holy Founders Parish. Loretto High School graduate. Founder and longtime president of “A Place in The Sun,” a recreation program for handicapped children. Beloved wife for 54 years of the late Joseph Vallone. Loving mother of Joseph (Jan) Vallone, Valerie (Jeff) Broderick, Edward (Rose) Vallone, Rita Potts, Leonard (Nancy) Vallone, Daniel (Jolene) Vallone, Gina (David) Franklin, Marilee (Frank) Biederstadt, Donna (Jim) Boylan and her “special son”, the late Frankie Vallone. Devoted grandmother of Angela, Rita, Joey, Jeff, Jeanette, Cal, Dan, Adam, Francesca, Jamie, Robert, Jena, Malerie and Jimmy. Cherished great grandmother of Roger, Rachel, Rayna, Jason, Alyssa, Joey, Alaina, Samantha, Ella, Anna Belle, Alexis, Hailey, Julieanna, Kirstin, Talen Maeve, Catherine and Charlotte. Daughter of the late Hilda nee Salsten and Patrick Cody. Sister of the late Lorraine, Evelyn and Laverne. Aunt and dear friend of many. A natural leader with limitless energy, Donna was a champion for the communities in which she raised her family. In 1969 she received the Calumet Park American Legion Post #1156 “Citizen of the Year” award. She was a Board member of Calumet Park Little League, Calumet Park Rams Football, and the Calumet Park Recreation Association. Proud member of Seven Holy Founders Woman’s Club and Parish Council. Longtime parishioner of St. James Catholic Church, Sauk Village where she was past president of the St. James’s Woman’s Club, and Coordinator of Sauk Village girls’ softball and boy’s baseball. Donna was an avid White Sox fan and proudly served as the Grand Marshall for the Disney parade in 1996. Resting at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 530 W. 14th St. (U.S. Rt. 30, 3 blks E. of Western Ave.), Chicago Heights on Thursday April 19th from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral Friday 9:15 AM to St. James Catholic Church, 22400 Torrence Ave., Sauk Village. Mass 10:00 AM. Interment Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood.
