Helen Mikos nee Malvestuto, age 91. Longtime Chicago Heights area resident passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 27th in Springboro, OH. Loving wife of the late Leo Mikos. Devoted mother of the late Joseph Mikos. Daughter of the late Rose nee Malvestuto and Ralph Mikos. Dear sister of June Dandurand, Louis (Wilhelmina) Malvestuto, and the late Constance (late Robert) Burns and Edith DeDoes. Beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Retired Housing Manager for Garden House of Park Forest. Helen was the first Executive Officer for the South Suburban Board of Realtors and the first for the Joliet-Will County Board of Realtors. After her husband’s death, she was broker-manager of the Mikos Real Estate-Showcase of Homes in Chicago Heights and Beecher. Helen was a graduate of the Illinois Realtors Institute and served as Chairperson of the Illinois State Executive Officers, Professional Standards and Multiple Listing Committees for the State and National Realtors organizations. She received the 1974 Realtors “Special Award” for service to community and Real Estate profession. A proud member of St. Agnes Parish and Women’s Club, where she served as Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Minister of Care. Helen received her certification as Catechist, and Bible facilitator from the Archdiocese of Chicago. She was a CCD facilitator and catechist for 16 years, and organized weekend retreats and Days of Recollection for the Chicago Heights area. Graduate of St. Anne Grade School, Bloom Township High School and Mundelein College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies. Helen was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for over 50 years and served as Grand Regent and Trustee of the Chicago Heights Court #136. She served on the Chicago Heights Public Library Board of Trustees for 31 years. She held the offices of Trustee, Vice President, Secretary, President and Chairman of the new building committee until its dedication. Humanitarian causes and philanthropic efforts included those for migrant children summer programs and assistance to Spanish speaking residents of Chicago Heights and Marian Catholic High School. A memorial mass will be held at St. Agnes Church, 1501 Chicago Rd. on Saturday May 12th at 10:00 AM. Burial of ashes Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood. A luncheon will follow.
