Lena R. Segala - 91

Glenwood

Lena (Lee) Rose Segala nee Prisco passed away peacefully at the age of 91, on Sunday, June 27th, 2021 surrounded by her family. Lena was born on December 8, 1929, to Maria nee Nappi and Anthony Prisco in South Chicago Heights, Illinois where she was a Sister to Carmine (Elsie) Prisco, Rosina (Walter) Kaszubsk, and Gilda (Albert) Freeh. She loved being Aunt Lena to her 5 nieces and 13 nephews and shared many special times with them. Her proudest role was being a devoted wife to John, Mother to Alicia Marie (Daniel) Danahey, and Grandmother to Grant Gerard Danahay, and she cherished every moment with them. Lena was a lifelong resident of Glenwood and Chicago Heights where she graduated from Bloom High School and worked at Continental Bank in Chicago. In 1956, Lena married John Anthony Segala. They have been married for 67 years and worked alongside each other at their business, Axsom Engineering and Machine Company. Lena’s Catholic Faith and service to others were at the center of all she did, and she generously blessed others with her talents, knowledge, and time. She was a dedicated parishioner of St. Kieran Catholic Church for 56 years where she volunteered in many aspects and was recognized by the Woman’s Club of St. Kieran as Woman of the Year. Lena also generously shared her time as a dedicated volunteer at St. James Hospital auxiliary for 35 years where she served on the auxiliary board holding both the office of Vice President and President. She served as coordinator of volunteers, community health education chairman for the hospital's pink balls and clubs on parade, and she served as the buyer for the hospital gift shop. Lena also served on the board of Marian Catholic High School. Lena was a faithful freind to all her neighbors in Glenwood. She served on several committees including the Beautification Committee for the Village of Glenwood. As each election rolled around she also enjoyed donating her time, along with her husband John, as polling place volunteers. Lena enjoyed playing golf on the women’s golf league with her sisters and many treasured friends. She also loved spending time entertaining family and special friends and opened her heart and home throughout her life. In Lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to St. Kieran Catholic Church in Chicago Heights Illinois. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Kieran Catholic Church, 724 195th Street, Chicago Heights on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at 11:00 AM. Lena will be missed around the family dining room table where I shared many spirited conversations with her.  Rest in peace and love with the Lord, Lena.  Your suffering is over.
