Olympia Fields

Peter Nicholas Petkovich was born July 10, 1927, in East Hazelcrest, IL and died October 18, 2017 at his residence in Olympia Fields, IL. He graduated from Thorton High School, where he was an all-conference football tight end. At the same time, he worked summers as a caddie at Calumet Country Club, where he developed his love for the game of golf. He served with the US Marines during WWII, with much of his service taking place over seas throughout China and Southeast Asia. After his tour of duty, Peter attended Western Michigan where he studied pre-law. This was followed by further studies, with a special education focus on Real Estate disciplines. Early in his career he worked as a real estate agent instrumental in developing Park Forest with American Community Builders. From there he went on to form his own real estate company in 1956, Town and Country Realty, located in Richton Park. Peter owned and operated the real estate office while also devoting much of his time to his portfolio of real estate investment properties located throughout the south suburbs until retirement. Peter is survived by his beloved wife June nee Vinson, his three much-loved children, Michael (Jodi), Barbara (Allan) Morris and Allison (Paul) Johnson; and eight wonderful grand children, Nicholas (Andrea) and Morgan Petkovich; Brad (Kelly) Ehrlich, Megan (Keith) Wieringa, and Laura Morris; Blake (Lisa), Garrett and Adam Johnson. Additionally, six great grand children, Ella, Melina, Aria Ehrlich and Evelyn, Charlotte, and Wyatt Wieringa. Peter most loved when the family was together, especially when everyone gathered around the “rig” for cookouts. Holiday celebrations were paramount with everyone present, greeted with much celebration and dance. Pete lived for golf and was an avid golfer carrying a single digit handicap for most of his playing years. He joined Olympia Fields Country Club in 1969 with a membership that spanned nearly 50 years, where he remained very active serving on the board of directors and on committees for much of his membership. In addition, he also belonged to Turtle Creek Country Club in Tequesta, Florida where he enjoyed his second home. Private memorial and internment were held.
