Richard “Dyke” Vanderhei, age 83. Longtime Chicago Heights and Crete resident. Graduate of the Glenwood School for Boys and Bloom High School. U.S. Air Force Veteran/Korea. Employed for more than 30 years as a Switchman for the Union Pacific Railroad. He had worked alongside his wife as a cook at the family’s Silver Tavern and Biamonte’s Restaurant. Husband for 56 years of the late Esther nee Biamonte. Father of Richard Vanderhei, Mary Jo (late Michael) Blackburn, Jacqueline (Dean) Ridder, Paul Vanderhei and the late David Vanderhei. Grandfather of Hope and Aaron (Kristen) Vanderhei, Maureen (Ramsey) Blackburn-Gilberg, Michelle Blackburn, Matthew and Amanda Ridder. Great grandfather of Greer Johnson, Andrew and Nicholas Vanderhei. Brother of Audrey Slakis, Dorothy Ruby, Joyce Holcomb, Susan Green and James Vanderhei. Brother-in-law of Katherine “Kay” (late Thomas) Amadio. Father-in-law of Constance Stafford. Uncle and dear friend of many. Resting at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 530 W. 14th St. (U.S. Rt. 30, 3 blks E. of Western Ave.), Chicago Heights on Friday December 27th from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
