Anita J. Longo nee Saia, age 88, lifelong Chicago Heights resident, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, September 22nd.
With the love of her life beside her for almost 66 years, she showed her 4 children, 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren what it means to live a life devoted to family, faith and traditions. She often said she missed her mother every day of her life since her sudden passing in 1956, at the young age of 52. She honored her for the rest of her life by showing her family that nothing in life is more important than nurturing, loving and spending time with one another. She thought fondly of her high school years, which included making lifelong friends and being a majorette. She was a class officer who was part of the reunion committee that planned decades of celebrations honoring Bloom High School Class of 1945. While raising her family during the San Rocco/Mt. Carmel years, she was a devoted officer and member of the Mother Cabrini Altar & Rosary Society and later a member of the Marian Mothers Club. Prior to retiring from the City of Chicago Heights, she supported her husband’s dream to own a restaurant, by opening and running Longo’s Fireside in the 1970’s. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, and traveling. Her devotion to the Blessed Mother included praying the rosary several times a day.
Wife of John S. Longo. Mother of John (Kerry), Gary (Sharon), Rosemary (David) High, and Louis (Christine). Grandmother of Jennifer, John, James, Gary, Nicolle, Michelle, Samantha, Alyssa, Emily, Louis and Olivia Longo, David Rachel and Rebecca High. Great grandmother of Michael, Anthony, Morgan, Gregory, Emma, Dominic, Marco, Lia, Joseph, Lillian, Melanie, Gabriella and Sophia. Sister to Anthony (Dolores), Albert (Joan), and Eugene Saia. Beloved aunt and dear friend of many. Preceeded in death by her parents Rose LoBue Saia and Anthony Saia and her granddaughter Amy Longo.
Resting at Panozzo Bros. Funeral home, 530 W. 14th St. (U.S. Route 30, 3 blks E. of Western Ave.) Chicago Heights on Monday Sept. 26th from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
