Clark “Gene” Cookingham, CHFD, Retired. A longtime Chicago Heights resident, Gene resided in Frankfort the past 11 years. He retired as a Captain with the Chicago Heights Fire Department and served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War. Awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during combat, he ultimately received his Medal the day before his passing. Husband for 42 years of the late Linda Louise Cookingham nee Thomas. Father of Matthew (Laurie Niego) Cookingham and Gina (James) Pierdzioch. Adoring “Grandpa” of Alexandra Lyn Pierdzioch. Son of the late Clark George Cookingham and Emma Lou Horton. Brother of John Cookingham, Laura Armstrong and the late George Cookingham. Beloved nephew, cousin, brother-in-law, uncle and friend of many. Resting at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 530 W. 14th St. (US Rt 30, 3 Blks E. of Western Ave) Chicago Heights on Wednesday August 31st from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral services Thursday morning 10:00 AM.
