Dale W. Jacobs. Age 86. Recently of Granger, Indiana, formerly of Chicago Heights, IL passed away on May 31, 2023. Dale was born on December 26, 1936, in Grand Mound, Iowa. Graduate of Knox College and the University of Northern Colorado.  Dale started his career as a high school English teacher in Clinton, Iowa. He served on the World Book Encyclopedia editorial staff for 40 years, retiring as Editor in Chief in 2004. Dale was a longtime active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chicago Heights as a Sunday school teacher, elder, and chairman of the congregation. Dale enjoyed reading and playing games such as Jeopardy, Scrabble, and Trivial Pursuit, and completing the most challenging crossword puzzles. Dale enjoyed square dancing and traveling within the United States and overseas. As a Die-Hard Chicago Cubs Fan, he was thrilled to see the Cubs win the 2016 World Series and attended one of the championship playoff games. Dale was a loving family man, a revered patriarch, and a kind and generous person with a witty sense of humor. Loving husband for 62 years of Jean nee Burmeister. Father of Christine (William) Jung, Debra (David) Garcia, and Susan (Gavin) Morgan. Grandfather of Ariel (Trent), and Moriah Garcia, William, Jason, and Patrick Jung, Gabriel, Jacob, and Samantha Morgan. Great grandfather of Levi Garcia. Son of the late Ellen nee Vetter and Everett Jacobs. Brother of Marolyn (Robert) Long, Esther (Alan) Peterson, Nancy (Edward) Math and the late Carol (late Robert) Case, Howard (Marjorie) Jacobs and Philip Jacobs. Brothers-in-law of Dale (Doris) Burmeister, Raymond (Linda) Burmeister, Joyce (Stanley) Fox, Linda (Paul) Stradt, Judy (late John) VanDeWoestyne, Andrea (Hal) Shelton and the late Robert (late Janet) Burmeister, and Michelle Burmeister. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Resting at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 530 W. 14th Street (US Rt 30, 3 blks E of Western Ave), Chicago Heights on Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Lying in state at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 330 Highland Drive, Chicago Heights on Friday, June 9, 2023, from 9:00 am until time of funeral services 10:00 am.
