Edmund "Skeeter" Skowronski

Edmund "Skeeter" Skowronski, a lifelong resident of Chicago Heights, passed away on December 7,  2025. Born on June 5, 1942, Skeeter lived a life defined by service, hard work, and a deep love for his family. ​A graduate of Bloom High School. Skeeter attended Prairie State College before answering the call to serve his country. A veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1965 as a Radarman 3rd Class. While he was proud of his service, his favorite part of those years was traveling the world—a passion he carried with him throughout his life.  ​Skeeter was a pillar of the community, dedicating 28 years as a Fireman for Chicago Heights Fire Department and working at Jewel for 26 years in Park Forest. Even in retirement, he couldn't sit still; he spent his later years working as a golf starter at Lincoln Oaks Golf Course. He was an avid sports fan, but his favorite athletes were always his children and grandchildren. He spent over 20 years coaching OTYA soccer and baseball and never missed a chance to cheer on his family and players. ​Skeeter was a long time member of the Polish Falcons of America. Skeeter also enjoyed fishing, cooking, golfing and famously "checking the weather." He was happiest when traveling with his wife, visiting friends across the country, or simply being surrounded by his family and friends he loved. On August 28, 1966 Skeeter married his love of his live for the next 59 years of Georgeann nee Meyers. Father of Paul (Patty), Marc (Kelly), Eric (Elizabeth), and Brad (Caryn) Skowronski. Grandfather of Lizzy (Tyler) Buss, DJ (Mary Kate), Stefene, Kaitlyn, Maddie, Connor and the late Matthew Skowronski. Great-grandfather of Amelia. Brother of Karen (late Bill) Ogren, Lynn (Matt) Hoff and Gayle Kick. Brother-in-law of Cliff Meyers and Gayle Ohlendorf. Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Friend of many. Memorial visitation at Panozzo Bros Funeral Home, 530 West 14th Street (US Rt 30, 3 blks E of Western Ave) Chicago Heights on Wednesday December 10, 2025 from 11:00 am until time of memorial service 3:00 pm. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, the Skowronski family will be honoring Skeeter by donating a memorial tree to his beloved Lincoln Oaks Golf Course.
