James J. Digiovanni - 61

Olympia Fields

James J. DiGiovanni, 61, passed away suddenly on February 4th, 2022 in his winter home at Bay Hill in Orlando, Florida. James was born on June 1st, 1960 to Sam & Doreen of Olympia Fields, IL.  Beloved Husband to Diane (nee Counts) and Father to Jennifer Smucker.  Survived by eldest Brother Nick J. (Tonya) and preceded in death by Brother Perry (Misty).  Grandson to Nick (Martha) DiGiovanni and Julio (Cecilia) Massetti. Nephew to Josephine [Chewy] Zaranti (DiGiovanni) (John), Joe DiGiovanni Sr. (Sharon), John DiGiovanni (Barbara), Nick DiGiovanni Jr. (Sharon) & Thelma Galderio (Massetti). Godson to Joseph and Marie Costello.  Loving Uncle to Jessica, Michael (Kimberly), Ryan, Sam, Lena (Dave), Jessica (Eric), Matthew, Sarah (Kody), Edward, Jackie. Great Uncle to Penny and Elizabeth. Cousin to many.

James, better known as “Jimmy”, served as an executive in healthcare billing and reimbursement for over 30 years, and retired in his mid-50’s to enjoy his passions.  As a life-long member of Olympia Fields Country Club, he enjoyed time with family and friends on the golf course and, even more so, the fellowship that followed around the dinner table and fireside festivities.  Jimmy was the consummate grill master, and like his father Sam, he knew his way around the kitchen.  He was an exceptional cook and was at his best when hosting dinner parties in the company of those he loved.

Jimmy’s warm and welcoming personality made it a pleasure to be in his company.  He had a quick wit and a laugh that was truly infectious.  His sense of humor was outdone only by his sense of style, which was emphasized by his unmatched collection of colorfully loud shirts.

A music enthusiast, Jimmy was a live music connoisseur and perfect companion for any concert goer.  He didn’t just attend – he was an avid participant frequently seen shredding air guitar solos and singing along without restraint.  As a hi-tech aficionado, he was the “go to” guy in the family for all things audio.  Just like his laugh, just like his shirts and just like his love for family, Jimmy lived “loud’ and made sure we could all “go to eleven”.

Gone too soon, Jimmy will remain as a song in our hearts.

Family and friends will meet at St Mary Church, 227 Monee Road, Park Forest on Saturday March 12, 2022 from 10:30 am until time time of Memorial Mass 12:00 Noon.
