John S. Longo - 94

Chicago Heights, Illinois

The Chicago Heights community and the world lost a great man. Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, godfather, friend, golf partner, personal chef, drinking buddy, mentor and United States Marine Corps WWII Veteran, John Longo passed away peacefully surrounded by treasured family. John was the last living member of the Louis & Josephine (Necastro) Longo family who recently celebrated his 94th birthday. He was called home by his lifelong love and partner, Anita nee Saia with whom he had John (Kerry), Gary (Sharon), Rosemary (David) High and Louis (Christine), 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Dad, Pops, Papa, Gramps created a place in his heart and in his home for everyone. All were welcome, all were well fed and all received a warm embrace when visiting 839 or the cottage. He will be remembered for his hearty laugh, his quick wit, his love for family & friends, but mostly for his ability to make us all feel cherished. He listened carefully to each of us and made time for us as a family and for each of us individually. The family is grateful for the love, respect and honor shown to him (and expressed to each of us) throughout his life and in the past 6 months as his health declined. He was strong and considerate until the end. He gave us the time to come together as a family, fill his home with laughter, the smell of his favorite foods and to each say goodbye. We will always love you and live our lives as a testament to your memory. Preceeded in death by his granddaughter Amy Clare, sister Mary and brothers Tony, Mike, Frank, and Louis. Resting at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 530 W 14th St (US Rt 30, 3 blks E of Western Ave), Chicago Heights on Friday July 2, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral Saturday 9:15 am from funeral home to St Agnes Church, Chicago Heights. Mass 10:00 AM. Interment Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood. Info 708-481-9230 and panozzobros.com.
