Marilynn, “Lynn” Thrall, 88 passed away peacefully Saturday morning, October 4th at her home in Indian Wells, California. She was a resident of Olympia Fields, IL and Indian Wells. Preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, who passed in 2009, Lynn is survived by her six children, Jeff (Suzi), Randy, Brooke, Chris (Cynthia), Jay (Polly) and Jan (Mike) Mazza. Nana to 14 grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) Mosley, Luke, Naomi (Mark) Cochrane, Chris, Natalie, Matthew, J.T., Erica, Jeremiah, Danny, Katie, Adam, Lindsay, Kelly, and one great-grandchild, Emma. Sister in law of the late Beverly (Dick) Duchossois, Aunt of Craig (Janet), Dayle (Ed) Fortino, Kim and the late Bruce Duchossois; Cousin to Marion Manthey. Her caregivers, Cecil Beare and Gwyn Cesena provided love, loyalty, kindness, and courage, and are acknowledged and greatly thanked as well. Born in Chicago to Alvin and Marion Feil, Lynn graduated from Monticello College, and married her childhood sweetheart, Jerry in 1947. She taught Spanish at Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic School.Lynn was a lover of golf, as well as all sports, especially those involving her Chicago teams. An avid golfer, she could lay claim to 5 Holes in One in her lifetime and also was a past Ladies Club Champion. She volunteered at the Bob Hope Desert Classic and Frank Sinatra Celebrity Invitational for many years and had been an active golf member of Olympia Fields Country Club, Indian Wells Country Club, Tradition Golf Club, and other Clubs in the desert through the years. She was a member of the Muses of the McCallum Theatre and, along with her husband, was a generous donor and supporter of community and civic organizations including the Evans Scholars, Elim Christian School, Abby Foundation, Comer Children’s Hospital, and most recently, the Center for Care and Discovery at the University of Chicago. Lynn and Jerry were honored with the St. James Franciscan Pillar Award for service and commitment to their community in 2008. She also participated in fundraising for the Living Desert in Palm Desert, California via the Mousey Powell Golf Tournaments.A “fiery” and vivacious redhead, Lynn was never one to sit still; she was always on the go with a smile on her face and vitality in her step. She never met a stranger and would make you a friend instantly. Holding a deep love for her husband Jerry and her family, Lynn was a special treasure who will be missed greatly by everyone.Lynn was a parishioner of Infant Jesus of Prague, Flossmoor, IL, and also attended St. Francis of Assisi, La Quinta, California. A private funeral Mass will be held at Infant Jesus of Prague, Flossmoor, Illinois; entombment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, Illinois. A Celebration of Lynn’s life will be in Olympia Fields, with an additional Celebration to be held in the spring in Indian Wells. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in memory of Marilynn Thrall at the University of Chicago Medicine.
