Richard H. “Dick” McGathey, age 92. Lifelong East Hazel Crest resident. Retired Chief Building Engineer for the Masonite Corporation’s Chicago Headquaters. Member of Stationery Engineers Local 399. U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. As a member of the 1st Infantry Division “Big Red 1”, Dick received a Purple Heart for wounds sustained on “D” Day at Omaha Beach, Normandy, France., later joining the Battery “A”-84^th Field Artillery for battles throughout the Rhineland and Central Europe. Former Lieutenant East Hazel Crest Fire Dept.  Husband for 67 years of Rose Mary nee Gonzalez. Father of Richard (Pam) McGathey, Ramon (Nancy) McGathey, Monica (Matthew) Elsey, Anna Marie (John) White, Ronald (Brenda) McGathey, Virginia McGathey, Victoria (Michael) Kiehl, Cpt. Randy (Jill) McGathey, CFD., and Rose Mary (Daniel) Pope. Grandfather of 20, great grandfather of 22. Brother of the late Chester Arthur McGathey and Della Marie Thomas. Beloved brother-in-law, uncle, co-worker and friend of many. Visitation, Friday Aug. 12^th from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at St. Anne Church 16801 Dixie Hwy, Hazel Crest.
