Robert Chiszar - 80

Robert A. Chiszar, former Mayor of Mokena, age 80 passed away on October 14, 2023.  Robert lived in Romeoville, IL.  He was a longtime resident of Mokena and Park Forest.  Born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, graduate of Saint Joseph High School, a Bachelor’s in Business from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN and a Masters in Business Administration from DePaul University.  He worked for the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway (EJ&E) for 28 years.  Prior to serving as Mayor of Mokena for 8 years (1997 to 2005), he served on the Mokena Board as a trustee for 16 years (1981 to 1997).  During his career with the Village, Robert achieved the delivery of Lake Michigan Water, wastewater treatment plant expansion, and helped guide the Village during its largest period of population growth.  Longtime member of the Mokena Lions Club.  Former Board Member of the Lincoln-Way Foundation.  Former President of the Park Forest Jaycees, and then founded and served as President of the Jaycees Chapter in Mokena.  He was an active member of the Rainbow Council, Boy Scouts of America where he served as Council President and Vice President of Finance and currently serving as Vice President of Administration.  He received his Eagle Scout Award in 1958 from Troop 308, and Explorer Scout Silver award in 1959.  Robert was an avid golfer.  Husband and lifelong sweetheart of Debborah (nee) Zakrocki meeting when they were at the age of 13.  Father of Micheal Chiszar, David Chiszar and Greg Chiszar.  Son of the late Jean (nee) Borowski and Anthony Chiszar.  Brother of Nancy Chiszar, the late James (late Sally) Chiszar and late Caroline (Robert) Runnion.  Uncle and friend of many.  Grandfather of Lauren, Janine, and Henry Chiszar.   Services were private.  Info Panozzo Bros.
