Rory L. “Big R” Maltrotto, age 60, resident of Marseilles, Il passed away April 7th. A longtime Thornton resident and graduate of Thornwood High School. Husband for 40 years of Cathy nee Larmon. “Dad” of Nanette (Lou) Mezydlo. Devoted “grandpa” of Nicholle Mezydlo whom he affectionately called “Boo”. Brother of Sherry (Dan) Blondeel, Rondi (Jocelyn Rot) Maltrotto, Lisa (Joe) Giuffre and Roger E. Maltrotto. Son of the late Carlotta nee Carrara and Roger R. Maltrotto. Awesome uncle of Braden McClements and Mei Giuffre and dear friend of many. Rory had a successful 35-year career in Public Works for the Villages of East Hazel Crest and Glenwood. Past Director of East Hazel Crest Public Works, Past President of South Suburban Water Works Assoc., and Past Officer of the South Suburban Public Works Assoc. His love producing and watching a good fireworks show, the Blackhawks, Top Fuel Drag Racing and trips on his Harley were only exceeded by the love for his beloved family and the people and municipalities he served. Rory’s was a life well lived, he will be greatly missed. A celebration of Rory’s life will be held on Saturday April 29th, 4:00 PM at the Thornton American Legion Hall, 109 N.
