Shirley Vallort - 78

Chicago Heights, Illinois

 Shirley Vallort, age 78, entered into eternal life on September 19, 2023, after a short illness.  Shirley was a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt who was a fixture in the lives of her family.  She grew up in the Pullman neighborhood and went to St. Willibrord High School.  Shirley is survived by her brothers Steven and Ron (Carolyn); nephews Joe (Maria) and Jim (Joel); nephews and nieces Katrina, Elena, Dominic, and Callie; and step nephews Sean and Robert.  Shirley received both a BS and MS in Mathematics and became a teacher at Thornton Township High School District 205.  She progressed from student teacher to math teacher to department head and finished her career as vice-principal.  She implemented the first computer program in District 205 and always put her students first and in positions to succeed.   During her retirement she took an interest in genealogy after Shirley and her mother Anna were preparing the guest list for her nephew Joe’s wedding.  That interest grew and she became a member of many local and state genealogical societies.  Her other interests included gardening, playing golf, solving sudoku puzzle books, and reading mysteries.  She is remembered as an excellent athlete growing up who was faster than many of her brothers’ friends.  She, along with the rest of the family, faithfully followed the Chicago Cubs and took great joy in their success.  Resting at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 530 W 14th Street (US Rt 30, 3 blks E of Western Ave), Chicago Heights Sunday September 24, 2023 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm.
