Emilia V. Lopez nee Villarreal, 81, lovingly known as Miné (Minnie) or Mimi passed away suddenly Sunday, September 19, 2021 at 8:15 AM. Emilia was born August 17, 1940 in Raymondville, Texas, to her parents Maria Augustina nee Ledezma and Manual Villarreal. She moved to Chicago Heights in 1969, where she met and fell in love with Ramiro Lopez. They were married February 21, 1970 and she helped him to raise his four children as her own. In 1972 they added to their family with a daughter of their own, Darlene. Emilia was a wonderful mother to Cindy Hodge, Karen Lopez, Kelly Lopez, Brenda Wheeler, and Darlene Jimenez. When the love of her life passed in 1999, Emilia and Ramiro had been married for 29 years.
Emilia worked at the Ford Motor Company Chicago Stamping Plant where she retired after 32 years of service. She was well-liked and known as a hard worker who worked long hours and more than pulled her weight. Emilia loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and boy could she cut a rug! She was an excellent cook whose homemade tortillas were always a hit! She was as soft on the inside as she was strong on the outside. Her family loved and adored her.
Emilia is preceded in death by her father, Manuel Villareal; her granddaughter, Stephanie Hodge; her nephew, Raul Jr. DeLeon; her stepfather, Jesus Lozada; her husband, Ramiro Lopez; and her mother, Maria Augustina Ledezma.
She is survived by her children; Cindy (Mark Solinski) Hodge, Karen (Stephanie Vasquez) Lopez, Kelly (Kim) Lopez, Brenda (Terry) Wheeler and Darlene (Dino) Jimenez. Grandchildren; Maria (Scott) Gates, Jamie (Josh) Toth, Brandon (Rahel) Hodge, Matthew (Kristin Manz) Lopez, Monica Lopez, David Lopez, Kyle (Erika) Nacey, Dina (Greg) Page, Ashley (Jason) Kulish, Austin Nacey, Blake Wheeler, Adam (Staci) Lopez, Emily (Joey) O’Nions and Ninabella Jiminez. Great-grandchildren; Kinley and Emery Gates, Jula and Jace Toth, Noel Grace Lopezmanz, Mia and Kiera Nacey, Keith, Zoey, Jaxson, and Xander Page, Clayton Wheeler, Isaac and Evelyn Lopez, Emilia and Liam O’Nions, as well as a great-grandchild on the way and adult step-children.
Siblings. Sister of Ninfa (late Raul) DeLeon, Victor Villarreal, Everaldo (Rosalinda) Villarreal, Rosalinda (late Richard) Lopez and numerous nieces and nephews.
