Eugene Planera, age 88. Longtime Chicago Heights resident. Native of Amaseno, Prv. Frosinone, Italy. Retired after 30 years of with Fahralloy Foundry in Harvey where he worked in Pattern Set-up, and also served as Credit Union Treasurer for 25 years and as Union President. He later worked for 16 years in Highway Maintenance for the Illinois Dept. of Transportation. He served with both the Italian Military and the U.S. Army/Korean War. Proud member and former President of the Amaseno Lodge #1, Chicago Heights. Husband of the late Gisa nee Giannetta. Father of Cynthia (Tony) Distasio and Eugene (Dalia) Planera. Devoted “Nonno” of Dino and Anthony Distasio, Gabriella, Dimitri and Marisa Planera. Brother of Livio (Carmine) and Thomas (Eva) Planera, Mary (Joseph) Pongelli, Anna (late Ettore) Panici, Susan (Joseph) Grilli and the late Cesare (Cesarina), Raymond (late Mary) and Mario Planera. Beloved “Zio” to many nieces and nephews. Resting at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 530 W. 14th St. (US Rt. 30, 3 blks E. of Western Ave) Chicago Heights on Thursday February 2nd, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral Friday 10:15 AM to San Rocco Oratory, Chicago Heights.
