Barbara D. Broderick - 91

Barbara D. Broderick nee Mannix passed away at the age 91 on August 10, 2026. Barbara was a longtime Flossmoor resident, formerly of Chicago’s Buena Park neighborhood. Beloved wife of the late John W. Broderick for 58 years. Mother of Patrick, John, Daniel (Carolyn), Michael (Tracy), Mary (John) Tresslar, Margaret (Furio Martini), Eileen (Dennis), Brendan (Doris), and Sean (Kristie) Broderick. Grandmother of Sarah, Brendan, Erin, Patrick, Kathleen (Dan) Dunlap, David (Peri), Timothy (Allyson), Flavia, Ryan (Elizabeth), Kelly, Dale, Connor, Alyssa, Aiden, and Caleb. Great Grandmother of Damen, Cecelia, Winona, Ari, and Niko. Sister of the late Gerald (Mary) Mannix and Bill (late Marianne) Mannix. Aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Barbara lived her life with faith, curiosity, energy, and a wonderful sense of adventure. She was always willing to try something new, whether learning to downhill ski in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula after marrying John or traveling to Machu Picchu in Peru for an expedition in the mountains with a friend while in her 50s. She had a lifelong love of learning. Barbara graduated from Mundelein College and later earned her master’s degree in special education from St. Xavier University. She also gave generously of her time, working and volunteering at Infant Jesus of Prague Church and neighboring parishes into her 80s.

Her Catholic faith was at the heart of who she was and served as an anchor throughout her life. Barbara attended Mass daily with her husband John and quietly lived her faith through her kindness, service, and care for others. As an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, she brought the Eucharist to friends and family who were unable to attend Mass. She also remained close to Good Shepherd Manor and was a faithful supporter of its charitable work.

She also believed strongly in staying active and could often be found walking, hiking, or making regular trips to the gym.

She was a devoted sports fan and loved cheering on Notre Dame along with her hometown Chicago teams including the White Sox, Bears, and Blackhawks.

Travel was another great joy in Barbara’s life, and she had the opportunity to see much of the world.

More than anything, Barbara loved her family. She took great joy in her marriage to John of 58 years and loved visiting her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren spending time together, and joining them in whatever new adventure came along. She brought enthusiasm, curiosity, and love wherever she went.

Funeral Saturday August 22, 2026 9:15 am from funeral home to St. Veronica Church (formerly Infant Jesus of Prague Church), Flossmoor. Entombment Calvary Cemetery, Evanston.
