Fred R. Marcon - 79

2/20/1937 - 1/19/2017

Fish Creek, WI. and Manalapan, FL. Formerly of Chicago's Roseland area and Flossmoor

Fred R. Marcon, 79, of Fish Creek, WI and Manalapan, FL passed away on January 19, 2017. He was at peace, in no pain, and with family at his side. Born February 22, 1937 to Italian immigrants, Celio and Teresa Marcon, on the south side of Chicago, Fred was a true American success story. As the 2nd youngest of 7 children (and the only boy), Fred learned his tremendous work ethic from his father – who worked 43 years for the George M. Pullman Company and NEVER took a sick day. Fred’s work ethic led to many academic and corporate achievements. After graduating from Mt. Carmel High School and the Illinois Institute of Technology, Fred joined the Illinois Inspection and Rating Bureau as a “Junior Inspector”. Through a series of promotions and corporate consolidations, Fred became the Regional Vice President of Insurance Services Office. His increased success led to a move from the Roseland section of Chicago to Flossmoor. In Flossmoor, Fred became very involved at Infant Jesus of Prague parish as a lector, football coach, basketball coach, and baseball coach – winning championships and, more importantly, touching dozens of young lives. Further corporate success took Fred and his family to Ridgewood, NJ in 1977. In Ridgewood, at Mt. Carmel parish, Fred continued with his significant coaching involvement and transitioned to “road-tripper” as his sons started playing high school and college sports and he could no longer coach them. Fred continued to rise through the corporate ranks at ISO, ultimately achieving the level of Chairman and CEO where he remained until his retirement in 2002. Additionally, he was Chairman of the board of trustees of Underwriters Laboratories and the President of Ridgewood Country Club. Fred loved to golf with his friends at Ridgewood CC, Pine Tree Golf Club, and Horseshoe Bay Golf Club. He had numerous stories and fond memories from those encounters. He was passionate about Mt. Carmel High School, the Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Cubs. His lasting legacy will be the magnitude of his philanthropy. With his wife, Natalie, Fred had a material impact on hundreds of families in need all over the world. His wish is to continue that philanthropy and asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the “Men of Carmel Fund” at Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago. Predeceased by his mother, Teresa, his father, Celio, and his wife of 49 years, Natalie (Sasso), Fred is survived by his sons Michael (Mary), Mark (Lynda), and Tony (Christina) and his daughters Michelle and Alison Conti (Vincent); his grandchildren Keaton Cross (Laura), Matthew, Taylor, Adam, Carmen, Frank, Angelo, Gino, Isabella, and Natalie. Resting at Panozzo Brothers Funeral Home, 530 W. 14th (US Rt. 30, 3 Blks. E of Western Ave) Chicago Heights, IL on Wednesday, January 25 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
