Gregory Gawronski - 76

Calumet City, Illinois

Gregory Gawronski, age 76, of Calumet City was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father on November 14, 2022.  Gregory was the youngest son of the late William and Marie Gawronski.  He is survived by his beloved grandchildren, Andrew Bentley, Taylor Skulski, and Valerie Skulski; foster sons, Jerry Bentley, Tim (Stacey) Skulski, David (Jen) Skulski, Joshua Ayala, and Steven Hardoin; loving brothers, Joseph (Joan) Garon, Robert (Charleen, deceased) Gawronski, and Peter (Donna) Gawronski; adoring nephews and niece, Christopher Garon, Jeffrey Garon, Lisa Mikesell (nee Garon), Glenn Gawronski, Grant Gawronski, Robert Gawronski, and Brian Gawronski; and countless young men and women to whom he was a mentor.  Gregory was also preceded in death by his brother, William (Carol, living) Gawronski, and foster son, Michael Hardoin.

Born in Chicago, Gregory graduated from St. Salomea grade school, Fenger High School, and Chicago State University.  Gregory (a.k.a., “Mr. G”) was a teacher in the Chicago Public Schools system for 35 years spending the majority of his time teaching elementary school at William H. Seward and Cesar E. Chavez elementary schools.  Mr. G spent his entire life caring for others, and is credited by many former students as being one of the most positive influences during their adolescence.  Mr. G loved all of Chicago’s professional sports teams, enjoyed coaching and officiating youth sports, and was an avid collector of sports cards and memorabilia.

The following was posted by Tim Skulski on Facebook the day after Gregory’s death, and is the perfect eulogy for Mr. G. “He wasn’t our real Dad, but he treated us like his real sons.  We are proud to call him Dad… I am sad to convey that Gregory Gawronski or as many knew him, Mr. G, passed away peacefully last night around 6:15 pm with his sons, grandson, and close family by his side. He was a great man, and I know he made an impact on a lot of children’s lives over the years while teaching at Seward and Chavez Elementary Schools…  If you knew him, you loved him… RIP Dad.”
