John Abramczyk. Age 86. Longtime Homewood resident, born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Graduate of Don Bosco High School. Received his Bachelor of Science in Education from University of Arkansas and Master’s Degree in Education from Western Illinois University. In his earlier years John was the bullpen catcher for the Milwaukee Braves. Third baseman and catcher for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. Retired Teacher and Basketball Coach for Eisenhower and Shepard High School. John was inducted in the Shepard Hall of Fame as their First Athletic Director. During his retirement was the Statistician for Eisenhower and Shepard High Schools Football, Basketball and Track and Field. Husband for 48 years of Marilyn nee DeBortoli. Father of Michael (Katie) Abramczyk and Mary Beth Abramczyk. Grandfather of Carmella, Micaiah, Lilia and Elisha Abramczyk. Son of the late Bernice nee Grobchowski and John Abramczyk. Brother of Susan Kenast, the late Barbara Johnson, Kathryn Abramczyk and Gerald Abramczyk. Resting at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 530 West 14th Street (US Rt 30, 3 blks E of Western Ave), Chicago Heights on Thursday October 12, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Lying in state Friday October 13, 2023 at St John Neumann Parish/St Joseph Church, 17951 S Dixie Highway Homewood from 10:30 am until time of Funeral Mass 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers Memorials in Johns name made to the John Abramczyk Scholarship Fund at Shepard High School would be appreciated by the Abramczyk Family. Private interment. Aunt Marilyn, Michael, Katie and Mary Beth … Elaine and I wish we could be there in person to console you in this difficult time … we have many fond memories of John and hope that your own memories of him will keep him alive in your mind as time passes … as you say your final goodbyes to him, know that we are with you in our hearts

John will be missed so much. He loved baseball and sharing all his knowledge. He was very fun and loved his family especially the grandkids. Praying for Marilyn and the entire family.
