Joseph Anthony Cate - 78

Joseph Anthony Cate passed away peacefully in his home on August 10, 2024 at the age of 78. He was born on December 14, 1945, while his father was overseas in the Panama Canal. He proudly graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1963. He briefly attended DePaul University before enlisting in the army in 1966. He served honorably in Vietnam until 1968, earning a Bronze Star for his service. Upon returning home he wanted to continue to serve by joining the Chicago Police Department. He met the love of his life Norine Allman while working at the bar he was part owner of, Carey’s Pub. They married on April 29, 1972. He and Norine settled in Park Forest where they grew old together. Joe left the force and took a job with The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District where he worked at Calumet plant for 35 years as an electrical operator until he retired in 2010.  Joe was a faithful parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in Park Forest, where he and Norine sent their four children to school. His greatest achievement was being a dad and grandpa. Joe is preceded in death by his wife Norine (nee Allman), his parents Eileen (nee Grey) and Joseph Cate and his sister Eileen (late Tom) Raimbault. Brother-in-law of the late Bill Peterson. Joe is survived by his brother Charlie (Kitty) Cate and sister Susanne (Bob) Morrel, his children Tim (Katie) Cate, Mike Cate, Alice (Bill Bormet) Cate, and Jim (Jen) Cate, his grandchildren Gillian, Carter, Thatcher, Addison and Clark and many nieces and nephews and niece Tracy Mallet, who cared for him and Norine during their final days. Resting at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 530 West 14th Street (US Rt 30, 3 blks E of Western Ave), Chicago Heights on Monday August 19, 2024 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral Tuesday August 20, 2023 9:15 am from funeral home to St Mary Church, 227 Monee Road, Park Forest. Mass 10:00 am. Burial Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
