June Masek - 98

Park Forest, Illinois

June M. Masek nee Gardner. Age 98. Longtime Park Forest resident. Born and raised in Chicago’s Little Village Neighborhood. Graduate of Farragut High School Class of 1942. Attended Metropolitan Business College and graduated from the West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse. She worked as a Registered Nurse at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights from 1965-73, Ludemann Center in Park Forest from 1972-73, and Oak Forest Hospital from 1973 until her retirement in 1986. June joined Grace United Protestant Church in Park Forest in 1955 and was one of the earliest members. She attended regularly until 2019 when health issues made attending too difficult. She was also a long-time member of the Park Forest Garden Club, Park Forest Nurses Club, and P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Park Forest Chapter, taking on leadership roles such as recording secretary and other officer positions. She was married for 46 years to the late Fred Masek. Mother of Naoan (Karen) Masek and the late Dawn Sedik. Grandmother of Bethany (Jason) Miller and the late Joel Sedik. Great grandmother of Abigail Miller, Annaliese Miller, Nathanael Miller, Caleb Miller and Sena Sedik. Daughter of the late Agnes nee Zitko and Thomas Gardner. Sister of the late George (late Jean) Trinka. June was a bright ray of sunshine in the lives of all who knew her. Her sense of adventure took her on trips all across the United States, Europe and Australia. An avid exerciser, June was a member of the Governors State YMCA Water Aerobics program for more than 30 years where she often led classes, and ‘balloon ball’. She was also a faithful walker with many friends at Lincoln Mall until its closing. June planned and hosted hundreds of parties, meetings and events over the years as her love of helping others and socializing came shining through. June was always someone you could count on for a ride, to lend a hand, or just about anything. She was an avid gardener enjoying both her vegetable and flower gardens. You’d often find her making zucchini bread made with zucchini from her own garden. She was a great cook and was always ready to bake for church bake sales or just to share with friends and neighbors. She was generous with her time and treasures. Never one to complain, June endured many hardships in life but always remained cheerful, despite many physical and emotional challenges. June’s wonderful kind-hearted spirit made those around her feel appreciated and loved. To say she will be missed by many is a tremendous understatement. May she rest in peace forever. Amen.
