A Legacy of Love & Music

Marco "Mark" Mundo, a legendary local musician, dedicated family man, and the cornerstone of his family, passed away peacefully surrounded by love and the classic rock music that defined his soul.

Born in Italy in 1948, Marco moved to the United States from humble beginnings as one of seven children. Through hard work, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved, he built a beautiful, vibrant, and unforgettable life.

To the Chicagoland music scene, Marco was a "Legend of Roseland." As the driving force behind The Marco Mundo Band and various other groups, he was a true showman who brought immense energy to the stage and joy to thousands of fans. Music was the ultimate thread of his life, a passion that connected him deeply to his family and friends.

While he was a rockstar on stage, his greatest and most intentional role was at home. Marco was the ultimate provider—a strong, selfless man who worked tirelessly and sacrificed without complaint to ensure his family always had safety, security, and peace of mind. His life's primary objective was simple: to make sure his wife and son were loved and protected.

Marco shared an unbreakable bond and a deep friendship with his son, Michael. Together with his wife, Kathy, they shared a lifetime of classic rock concerts, a memorable journey back to his roots in Italy, and a home filled with laughter, sharp wit, and unconditional support. Marco’s protective love, distinct humor, and beautiful music will remain an enduring legacy for all who knew him.

He was a man who didn't just live a good life, but a man who was truly, completely, “Finer than Sin.”

I accidentally discovered Marco's passing while looking for my good friend and former Zordan's workmate, Arti Baldacci, whom I had just belatedly found out about. I was shocked and saddened when I also saw Marco's name there. To me, Marco was THE most colorful, "bigger than life" character of the Chicago/Roseland music scene. My brother Ernie and I were both musicians and friends of Marco, and we both thought the world of him with his great personality, kind demeanor, and sense of humor. Although I hadn't seen Marco after Ernie I moved to Virginia after 1973, over the years I've told many friends about MARCO MUNDO, the truly special person I knew in Chicago. I'm not exaggerating. My former bandmate, Rich Godinez, (also one of Marco's former bandmates in Monterey Hand), and I used to discuss cool, notable, humorous, or original things Marco did, such as when he would describe something he liked and would excitedly say, "That's 'A' !", or if he didn't approve he'd say, with some derision, "That's 'Z'!", while wiggling his fingers and moving his hand downward as if something was falling away. I believe that was a "Marco Mundo Original" that caught on among quite a few Roseland musicians. I've missed knowing Marco over these many ensuing years, so now, instead, I am looking forward to seeing him again in God's promised Resurrection!

You will be missed, but never forgotten. Unlike the souls who drank from the River Lethe, your memory won't fade. And every time I hear Styx, I'll think of you-with a little more respect and probably a few tears.
