Salvatore (Sal) Carmine Mazzocca, age 89, of Nampa, Idaho (formerly of Chicago Heights, Illinois) passed away peacefully at home on February 2, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Sal was born on March 3, 1935 in Chicago Heights, Illinois to Carmine and Irene (DeNardo) Mazzocca. He graduated from Bloom High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Sal served in the Army Reserves.
Sal and Teresa (Lowell) were married on September 15, 1962 at St. James Church in Sauk Village, Illinois. They met at Arthur Murray Dance Studio when Terry became Sal’s dance instructor. Their dancing skills were admired over the years and included ballroom, swing, and square dancing. Sal and Terry were happily married for 62 years.
Sal worked in telecommunications, engineering, and management with Illinois Bell for 30 years. He retired in 1990 at the age of 55. During his “retirement,” he worked as a Financial Advisor and continued his home-based tax business as an Enrolled Agent Tax Preparer until the age of 87. His clients became like family to him.
Sal was a Parishioner of St. Kieran Church for 50 years. He was a member of Toastmasters, Lion’s Club, and a long-term member of Chicago Heights Jaycees, serving a term as President.
Sal was a kind and gentle soul who was cherished by his family. He especially looked forward to his ice cream, smoking his pipe, and watching the Chicago Cubs. Over the years, he also enjoyed golfing, bowling, bocce ball, traveling, and trips to the casino.
Sal is survived by his wife, Terry; four daughters: Diane (James) Fiello, Texas; Gina (Patrick) Cloward, Colorado; Julie (Robert) Connors, Illinois; and Jennifer (Ricardo) Vargas, Idaho; 15 grandchildren: Michael (Victoria) Fiello; April, Nicole and Jeremiah Derozier; Sean (Brianna), Tyler, Megan, Ian, Ryan, Wyatt, Dylan, Fiona, and Shannon Connors; Jacob and Kyle Vargas; four great-grandchildren: Michael and Aria Fiello; Arielle and Aubrey Connors. He is also survived by his sister, Norinne Pulec, and sisters-in-law Arlene and Gail Lowell. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and a dear cousin to many. Preceding Sal in death are his parents, Carmine and Irene (DeNardo) Mazzocca, his in-laws, Ralph and Evelyn (Stamm) Lowell, and brothers-in-law, Andy Pulec, Larry Lowell, Jack Lowell, Wayne Lowell, Bob Lowell, and Ed Lowell. Inurnment with Military Honors was held at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery (10100 N. Horseshoe Bend Road, Boise, Idaho, 83714) on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
