Samuel V. Piazza. Age 96. Longtime Glenwood and Chicago Heights resident. Graduate Bloom High School Class where he was All State running back. University of Illinois Class of 1951 played football for legendary Coach Ray Eliot. United States Army World War II Veteran. Retired Math Teacher, Counselor, Football and Baseball Coach from Bloom High School where he influenced many students and athletes. Was a longtime member of the former St John Catholic Church in Glenwood. Beloved husband for 53 years of the late Eleanor nee Malizia. Father of John (Donna) Piazza, Peggy (Pat) Luther, Dan (Michelle) Piazza and Tom (Sue) Piazza. Grandfather of Nick (Kate) Piazza, Darcy (Matt) Josephson, Kaitlyn (Andrew Carpenter) Luther, Tess (Joel) Sikma, Casey (Fiance Becky Sanders) Luther, Arianna Luther, Michael (Seda) Piazza, Andrew Piazza, Matthew Piazza, Sam (Bri) Piazza and Cara (Jake) Herbers. Great grandfather of 11. Son of the late Frances nee Patti and John Piazza. Brother of Phyllis (late Mike) DePaolo, the late Jospehine (late Alfred) Di Pego, Connie (late Ted) Wroblewski, Sarah (late Joseph) Spotora and George (late Lottie) Piazza. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Same loved to play golf and attend his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Resting at Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home, 530 W 14th St (US Rt 30, 3 blks E of Western Ave), Chicago Heights, Wednesday July 5, 2023 from 9:00 am until time of Funeral Services 12:00 Noon. Interment Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood. My condolences to the Piazza family. Sam was a great guy and a patient teacher/coach who was a strong figure at Bloom high school and in the community. I'm sure he will be missed by many.
