Sandra L. Locke - 63

Calumet City

SANDRA LOCKE was born on January 26, 1958 in Chicago, IL. She was the second born of three daughters to the late Dorothy Bursey and Lionel Bursey. Sandra attended St. Mary Center for Learning, where she was popular and beloved by her peers, earning accolades in academics and athletics as a track and field sprinter. Following her graduation, Sandra sought to further expand her knowledge and skills by attending Malcolm X College where she earned a certification in applied science.
Thanks to her keen eye for detail and charismatic personality, Sandra enjoyed a long career providing impeccable receptionist and clerical services to a number of iconic corporations throughout the Chicagoland area. Most notably, Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust Company of Chicago (now Bank of America), where a simple ride home offered by the brother of her co-worker would lead to a marriage of almost 30 years. Sandra was united in Holy Matrimony to Harry Locke III on April 19, 1986 at
St. James A.M.E. Church. They have one son, Harry Locke IV.
Always willing to place the well-being of others over herself and provide care and comfort to those who need it, Sandra changed career paths in 2007
and began working in the healthcare industry. Sandra provided care and rehabilitation services to the elderly at Plaza Nursing & Rehab Center LLC
and Help at Home INC, until her retirement in 2014.
On Tuesday, February 09, 2021, Sandra peacefully transitioned while holding the hand of her son and daughter-in-law, as the loving voice of God called
Sandra’s soul home at Hospice of the Calumet Area in Munster, Indiana. Sandra was bold, fierce, and full of life. She will be lovingly remembered as a mother, a sister, a neighbor, a mentor, a singer, a dancer, an
entertainer, and a friend to many far and wide.
Her memory will be greatly cherished by her loving son: Harry Locke IV; daughter-in-law: Fama Locke; Sisters: Arwestra “Whoochie” Coleman and Michiko Bursey; Niece: Dyemeka; great-nieces and nephews: Maria McIntosh, Kesha McIntosh, Terrance McIntosh, Cordaro Bursey, Kylin Bursey, Amari Bursey, and Brittany Dunner; sister-in-law: Yolanda Griffin; The Rakover Family, The Gant Family, The Banasiak Family, and her neighbors of over twenty years: Cathy and Joe, Nelda and Rick, and Richard Huhra.
